Efficiency of Chemical Toilet Sewage (CTS) Co-Fermentation with Typical Energy Crops

چکیده

Chemical toilets are becoming more and common. Large volumes of chemical toilet sewage (CTS) generated in popular tourist destinations, where waste conveyance treatment systems not an option, which necessitates new methods for neutralizing such waste. Anaerobic digestion is, potentially, one solution. The aim the present study was to test treatability co-fermented with maize silage biomass using anaerobic (AD). It found that CTS does impair AD, as long fluid used dilute feedstock contain than 30% CTS. Biogas yield reached 400 cm3/gVS, biogas produced contained 57 ± 2.6% CH4 methane. Higher doses inhibited digestion. This inhibition directly linked toxicity, reduced methanogen populations. This, turn, slowed down VFA-to-biogas conversion, triggered VFA accumulation, ultimately increased FOS/TAC decreased pH.

Parameterization of Evapotranspiration Estimation for Two Typical East Asian Crops

Estimation of evapotranspiration plays an important role in understanding the water cycle on the earth, especially the water budget in agricultural ecosystems. The parameterization approach of the Penman-Monteith-Katerji-Perrier (PM-KP) model, accounting for the influence of meteorological variables and aerodynamic resistance on surface resistance, was proposed in the literature, but it has not...

Impacts of chemical crop protection applications on related CO(2) emissions and CO(2) assimilation of crops.

BACKGROUND A major global challenge is to provide agricultural production systems that are able to sustain growing demands for food, feed, fibre and renewable raw materials without exacerbating climate change. Detailed and reliable data on the CO(2) balance of different agricultural management activities and inputs as a basis to quantify carbon footprints of agriculture are still lacking. This ...

Improving the Nutrient Efficiency of Tree Crops

Introduction Essential mineral nutrients applied to crops are a cost to growers and, poorly managed, contaminate air and/or water resources. Over the past 30+ years, fertilizer costs (USDA, 2006) and evidence of the negative impact of fertilizer nutrient contamination of air and water resources have increased significantly (Tilman et al., 2002). Therefore, an increase in nutrient efficiency, me...

Renewable Energy from Sewage Sludge

At present, the main contributors to waste to energy are municipal solid waste, manufacturing waste and landfill gas. Probably we are all most familiar with the first (MSW), which involves the garbage that the garbage men pick up regularly at our homes and which goes to a landfill, a transfer station, or incinerator. Today we are going to introduce you to something relatively new on the alterna...

Extracting chemical energy by growing disorder: efficiency at maximum power

We consider the efficiency of chemical energy extraction from the environment by the growth of a copolymer made of two constituent units in the entropy-driven regime. We show that the thermodynamic nonlinearity associated with the information processing aspect is responsible for a branching of the system properties such as power, speed of growth, entropy production, and efficiency, with varying...
